Teachers Mac is a user group "diskletter".....an informal, electronic publication created by the SchoolHouse Mac K-12 Teacher's User Group. Teachers Mac is a "diskletter" in the sense that it is a newsletter on a disk. Putting a newsletter on a disk makes it possible to send out lots of useful programs and other files along with the newsletter and keeps expenses down.
Teachers Mac is informal because it's primary focus is presenting information. We're not as concerned with polish as we are with getting as much information to you as possible, and with generating more.
Teachers Mac is electronic in that it is not available in paper form. Rather it is available in 800 and 1400k versions, filled with programs, information, lesson plans, how-tos, art and so on. Included programs and other material are found or developed by teachers in their own efforts to use Macs in the classroom. The content will vary from issue to issue, but one thing is definite, K-12 teachers will find useful programs and information with every issue. Subscriptions are $29 for six issues.
Teachers Mac Plus is more of a good thing. It is published on a 1400k disk which allows us to include lots of extra programs and other materials. Subscriptions are $38 a year for six issues.
Web subscribers are sent a new password with each issue which gives them access to the material at the Teachers Mac Web site. Each subscription includes membership in SchoolHouse Mac which entitles subscribers to member prices on most SchoolHouse Mac Products.
For $18.00, you'll receive a 1400k disk six times a year, filled with our favorite educational and fun games. Some issues will include a very brief letter with helps, tips, information, and suggestions.
Some issues contain a dozen or so shorter games of a specific type such as board games. Others contain one or two larger games that we especially like. A year's collection will contain a large number of educational games, but some will be just for fun and appropriate for an educational setting.
The games will all be suitable for children and adults of varying ages and extensively tested by my exacting panel of judges.....my three sons (ages 10 to 16) and my first through fifth grade students, and myself.
SchoolStuff is actually three publications which can be ordered separately or together. Elementary SchoolStuff (K-5), Middle SchoolStuff (6-9), and High SchoolStuff (9-12) are each published six times a year on HD disks. The idea is the same for each except that material on the disks are selected by educationally appropriate level. While there'll be some overlap in terms of age appropriate material, there will be no duplication of content with each other or our other publications.
As our work and interests have moved us more and more onto the Internet, we've found lots of wonderful and varied materials. WeÕre editing and converting these materials to more easily usable formats. We think that process will save you the time and difficulty involved in finding and making them usable. We'll also make materials available to you which you might not otherwise be able to use, even if you do use the Internet.
Of course, this material is related to education in one way or another with an item of personal interest occasionally thrown in. WeÕll include graphics, lesson plan and unit ideas, and occasional ÒebookÓ or collection of plans or articles, an occasional small program or game and lots more. These collections will differ from Teachers Mac in that they wonÕt contain a newsletter and content will not emphasize programs. Six issue subscriptions are $18 per year. These subscriptions don't include SchoolHouse Mac membership. Members can apply their 15% discount towards purchase price.
Members of SchoolHouse Mac will receive one disk mailing a year with samples of our work and our current electronic and paper catalog. Note that this is a change from past practice. Members will no longer receive issues of Teachers Mac. Members will receive our electronic mailing (if they have an email address), as well as various U.S. mailings. Membership is available for $12 a year.
For SchoolHouse Mac's work to continue, we need to receive reasonable compensation for our work when more than one person uses it. We don't think the cost of multi-user licenses are reasonable on the part of many companies, so we've tried to establish a policy which means our needs as well as those of our members. We also want to keep it simple
Please double the cost of our subscriptions, memberships and other products, when used by more than one person in a school building on a regular basis.
Please triple the cost of our subscriptions, memberships and other products, when used by people in more than one building in a school district on a regular basis.
